SPACE FRAME SYSTEMS
Pipes:
The pipes, the main carriers of the system which
are exposed to axial pressure or the drag force,
are produced in accordance with DIN 17100 using
the steel pipes with circular cross-section that
have a low carbon content and a high ability to
be welded with the quality of St 37, St 42 or
St 52. The material used for the apparatus welded
to both ends of the pipes by means of the gas
welding method has the same quality as the pipe
material.
Spheres:
Produced using Asilçelik 1040 material as per
DIN 17200, the spheres are sized between the diameters
of 50 mm or 250 mm based on the project design.
They are shaped and ground using the hot forging
technique, and the rough layer on them is removed.
Based on the requirements of the production project,
the processes of threading, surface smoothing
are performed on the CNC workbenches. In case
there is no requirement to the contrary, it is
coated with 25 micron thick electro galvanization.
Nuts:
Nut types are determined according to the calculated
pressure and drag force. Nuts are mounted through
the splits opened on both sides and by means of
the pin passing through the bolts.
Horizontal Beams:
Having a rectangular cross-section in general,
the horizontal beams have St 34 or St 37 quality.
These are produced in the factory, based on the
type of the coating to be used and the condition
of the space frame system. Unless there is a demand
to the contrary, it is painted with one coat of
anti-rust and one coat of final paint, following
the completion of the material cleaning. It is
mounted in the work site, using the bolts.
Horizontal Beam Posts:
Horizontal Beam Posts are used to establish the
connections of the horizontal beams. In case the
system itself does not form the roof inclination
at the same time, this inclination is formed by
the horizontal beam post lengths.
Bolts:
Produced in accordance with DIN 13, ISO threaded
bolts bear the 8.8 or 10.9 quality, and they are
supplied from the companies who are in the leading
position in this field in Turkey. They are produced
with dense threads, in order to prevent them from
being influenced by the vibration. The bolts are
appropriate components with threads being opened
on the kneading machines. Click to obtain information
about the technical properties of the bolts used.
PROTECTION AGAINST CORROSION
Protection Against Corrosion:
Unless otherwise is demanded, bolts and spheres
are plated by electro galvanization and the nuts
are plated by hot dipping or electro galvanization.
For the pipes, the following methods are used
as desired:
a) Epoxy polyester powder paint on zinc
phosphate,
b) Polyester powder paint on zinc phosphate,
c) Epoxy polyester powder paint on hot
dipped galvanization,
d) Polyester powder paint on hot dipped
galvanization.
Horizontal beams and their elements are painted
in the desired colors, first by one coat of anti-rust
which is air-proof and synthetic based and then
a coat of final paint.
DESIGN
Architectural Design:
The space system planned in harmony with the architectural
project is designed according to the steel roofs,
aesthetics, purpose of use and economical parameters.
It is becoming a preferred system in architecture
owing to its being lighter than other roof systems
and its being prefabricated, its ability to cross
very wide gaps and its possibility to be painted
in desired colors of powder paint. As the space
system is fairly resistant against the horizontal
loads according to its structure, it is especially
preferred in the countries like Turkey which are
located on the seismic zone.
Static Calculation Management:
All the static calculations of the highly hiperstatic
space frame system are performed by computer aided
operations. The calculation programs used are
based on the matrix-displacement method. The calculation
outputs include the node displacements, bar strengths,
support reactions and all the element cross-sections.
All the loads are applied on the nodes and transferred
to the pipes with the help of the spheres. Thus,
the pipes are exposed to only axial drag pressure
loads. The loads are in accordance with TS 498.
ASSEMBLY
Assembly:
Before starting the assembly, the assembly leader
checks the place where the space system will be
installed, column axles, ancher plates and existing
work site conditions; and takes these from the
executive staff of the work site. In case there
are conditions which constitute an obstacle for
the assembly, he informs these to the work site
executive by a report and requests these conditions
to be corrected. After the suitable conditions
are provided, assembly is started in accordance
with the project. All the elements of the space
frame system are mounted in place in a free axial
position by tightening their bolts all the way
to the end without forcing. The assembly is completed
in such a way that there will be no loose bolt
and all the elements will be located on the exact
axis by applying the temporary support for the
system as per the instructions of the work site
leader, providing the necessary reverse sinking
to the system and ensuring the general building
safety. The bolt installation and galvanizing
holes, if any, are left in a position not exposed
to rain. The welding processes are avoided in
the building to the maximum extent possible. The
welds that have to be performed despite these
are delivered after providing their protection
against corrosion.
The most frequently used assembly
methods:
1) Installing the system
on the ground and then erecting it by means of
vertical carriers.
2) Installation of the system in place,
in the form of the groups of one or three.
3) Combination of the first two methods
above.
4) Installation of the system on the assembly
level, sliding it on the rails to fix at the final
position.
TRANSPORTATION
Transportation:
Space system elements are transported to the assembly
site inside special packing in a way to prevent
breaks, scratches and damages. In this way, a
safe transportation is ensured, which does not
necessitate a wide stock area during the assembly,
facilitates loading and unloading, and is not
affected by the weather conditions.
